Two weeks ago, we have communicated the initiative of the Twente Board together with the City of Enschede, housing providers, Saxion and UT on realising temporary student accommodations as we are currently experiencing an urgent housing shortage as new students are coming in for the start of the academic year 2021-2022. We would like to update you on the process.
The parties involved have been working hard to explore the opportunities for realising temporary units on campus. Up until now, no major issues have come to light, which makes us positive that it will be possible to realise this in a short term. Further details need to be carefully worked out, and the formalities must be followed. This will require some time, but we are confident that this should not take too much time. The exact time frame is hard to predict, at this moment. We will keep you informed on that.
Furthermore, we are exploring other opportunities for (temporary) housing outside the campus. As soon as we have updates on that, they will be communicated, too. In any case, we are thrilled with the success of the ESN Twente Housing Matchmaking Service, which has led to a substantial number of matches between students and homeowners.
