Six cases of Covid-19 on campus

Yesterday, the GGD Twente (regional public health services) has informed us that six students of the University of Twente were tested positive for the coronavirus. These students are residents of the Campus053 student housing.

Measures were taken at Campus053

Based on the advice of the GGD Twente, managers of Camelot, which owns and operates the Hogekamp building, have taken measures to help prevent the coronavirus from spreading further. All common areas in the building have now been closed. Residents have been asked to stay in their apartments when in the building.

The GGD is currently performing contact tracing research. Contact tracing means tracking where you may have contracted the virus. The GGD also looks at whom you have been in contact with, and whom you may have infected (your contacts). The purpose of contact tracing is to prevent the virus from spreading further.

Camelot and the University of Twente are in close contact with the GGD and other regional authorities and will support their work where and when needed.

Get tested, also with mild symptoms

If you have mild symptoms, call 0800 1202 for an appointment (or +31 850 659 063 if you are calling from abroad). Have your citizen service number (BSN) ready. You can make an appointment if you have one or more symptoms of Covid-19, such as:

  • cold-like symptoms
  • a stuffy nose
  • a runny nose
  • sneezing
  • a sore throat
  • a cough
  • fever
  • or sudden loss of smell or taste.

You do not need to pay for taking a test. All results will be treated confidentially, and outcomes will not be shared with the UT. Please stay at home until you are tested.

Residents of the Campus053 building with specific questions may contact the GGD by phone 053 - 487 6840 during office hours (8.30h-17.00h). If you have severe symptoms or belong to an at-risk group, get in touch with your general practitioner.

Adhere to the rules

A few basic rules apply to prevent the virus from spreading. Please follow these rules. Stay 1.5 metres away from other people, travel outside peak hours if possible, do not go to busy places, wash your hands often and cough or sneeze into your elbow. Do not travel to countries with an orange or red travel advice if not strictly necessary. Stay home for 14 days when you arrive from international travel from an orange or red marked country.
