Factors Influencing the Adoption of Open Educational Resources in Vocational Education: A UTAUT-Based Study

Abstract

:

This study investigates factors influencing the adoption of Open Educational Resources (OER) in vocational education using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) framework. Focusing on vocational teachers' behavioral intentions, the research examines key UTAUT constructs: performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy (EE), social influence (SI), and facilitating conditions (FC). A mixed-methods approach was employed, including quantitative surveys (60 responses) and qualitative interviews (six teachers). Findings indicate that PE, particularly OER adaptability and relevance to vocational practices, strongly predicts OER adoption. EE played a moderate role, with curriculum integration challenges cited as barriers. Although SI was not statistically significant, qualitative results highlighted peer and industry influence. FC, such as technical support and time allowances, were critical for adoption, with time constraints and resource availability being major obstacles. Recommendations for enhancing OER adoption include improving customizability, providing teacher training, fostering peer support networks, and investing in technical infrastructure.
