Spring call for applications FAIR Data Fund opens on Tuesday 1st March

As of Tuesday 1st March, UT researchers can apply for financial aid from the FAIR Data Fund to cover the costs of making datasets FAIR. This fund is for data that has already been created. It is intended for situations where there are no other resources available to make the data FAIR. The fund offers researchers a budget (up to €3.500) to cover the costs of making their data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.

Researchers and research projects from the University of Twente, TU Delft, and TU/Eindhoven are eligible to apply for the fund. The Spring call ends on Thursday 31st March 2022. Applicants will be notified of the outcomes by Friday 6th May. 4TU.ResearchData believes in the added value and benefit of making data FAIR.

Eligibility and support from UT’s FAIR Data Steward for the application
As an applicant, you must have a demonstrable relationship with the University of Twente. Moreover, the dataset must have been created in affiliation with one of these institutions. UT researchers are welcome to ask UT’s DCC FAIR Data Steward, Zafer Öztürk, for advice and support with the application.

Earlier granted UT FAIR Data Fund proposals
For the 2021 Fair Data Fund Spring Call four UT researchers (Frank Halfwerk, Michelle Kip and Ria Wolkorte and João Moreira) received a grant! You can read more about their granted proposals and what they are using their grant for on the 4TU community platform.

Efforts to make data FAIR that can be funded include:

  • Identifying and implementing appropriate metadata standards
  • Generating (meta)data documentation or adding relevant documentation
  • Anonymization or aggregation of confidential data to make them publishable
  • Shifting from a proprietary to open data format to make data interoperable
  • Creating data visualizations to make datasets accessible and reusable
  • Promotion of a FAIR dataset to increase its impact and reuse (e.g., delivering a presentation about a FAIR dataset and 4TU.ResearchData at a conference).

Refining datasets to make them FAIR and available to others may:

  • Increase the quality and value of the data.
  • Make them reusable over an extended period.
  • Increase the visibility and the impact of the research.
