Good, FAIR data management is very important for UT's network data scientist Doina Bucur. Her data describes indigenous astronomies from all over the world. It has a historical and cultural nature. She has collected data objects that describe for example the way different people saw constellations in the sky.
Preserving data for future scientific studies
Bucur has put a lot of effort into digitizing this historical data in order to preserve the data for future scientific studies. She is also making the data FAIR: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable. Take a look at the video below where she tells why it is important to make your data FAIR.
In the process of polishing and publishing her data set she got help from Zafer Ozturk, UT’s FAIR Data Steward at the Digital Competence Centre at the UT.
FAIR Data Fund
Bucur obtained a FAIR Data Fund from 4TU.ResearchData in 2022 to support the release of a scholarly dataset describing constellation line figures (spatial networks in celestial coordinates) from the ethnography of many traditional astronomies around the world.
