Residential care

Residential care services support daily living activities with medical and nursing services if required. Examples include nursing homes and psychiatric hospitals. In 2020 we started a research collaboration with TWB (Thuiszorg West-Brabant), a home care provider in Roosendaal (NL), focusing on data-driven capacity management in home care services.

Ontzorgen

The research project Ontzorgen focuses on tackling the staffing crisis in healthcare by developing a regional logistics care ecosystem. Ontzorgen is a collaboration of CHOIR with Windesheim, TNO, Stichting Lucrum, several VVT institutions in Twente, and logistics partners, co-financed by TKI-Dinalog, and runs from 2024-2027.

Ontzorgen investigates how the care, goods and service chains in the VVT can be optimally coordinated, both intramurally and extramurally. Technological solutions and logistical innovations can thus contribute to relieving the burden on healthcare personnel, so that they can spend more time on the core of their work: caring for people. The aim of Ontzorgen is to fill in the regional care ecosystem in a medically responsible, economically feasible and climate-neutral manner as much as possible in accordance with the wishes of the care provider and client.

The first results show that there is a large untapped capacity potential in intramural care. Up to 17% of the time, healthcare providers are busy with tasks that are not their core care tasks. In Ontzorgen we introduce care-relieving employees, who can take over non-care tasks from healthcare employees. We investigate how targeted use of technology, such as optimizing task packages for healthcare employees and care-relieving employees and optimizing logistic flows, can lead to better utilization and higher satisfaction of employees and clients.
