Research and education

Students are always welcome at the BMS lab

Whether you need space to work on your research or thesis, would like some advice on the technology we offer or need additional help, the team at the BMS Lab can help you. The BMS Lab provides students with several services and resources, ranging from help with development to borrowing equipment. Keep in mind that only if having a project registered, students can book and use the equipment from the BMS Lab. You can borrow studying equipment such as streaming kits and reMarkable2 without project registration.

Adapting automated vehicle behaviour to user trust: A driving simulator study

Student testimony from Melina Kowalski on her experience in collaborating with the development team for her thesis on:

Collaborating with the development team of the BMS Lab as a human factor and engineering psychology student has taught me how to work with professionals with a more technical background. I learned how much work goes into development and how to best communicate what is important for social scientists. I was able to work on my technical skills, as someone who had little experience at first. I learned how to create virtual environments and how to troubleshoot problems occurring. Most importantly I have learned how to communicate with a more technical perspective in mind.

Education

Besides offering studying equipment, as a student, the BMS Lab can support your study in several ways. You may participate in some of the minors which are created in collaboration and the BMS Lab, for example, the new Introduction to Neuroscience for Business and Society, as well as the Circular Economy Transition, Serious Gaming minors. Furthermore, the BMS Lab can be used for course activities, such as case studies for companies, for which equipment is needed.

Research

You need a registration code and a consultation with the teacher in charge to use the lab. In addition, when you are writing your thesis, you can borrow the BMS Lab facilitiesequipment, and software to conduct your experiments. On the bottom of the page, an overview is provided of student theses that have been done at the BMS Lab. For your research project, the BMS Lab offers development support for up to 80 hours, as well as data storage and processing services to ensure you are compliant with UT protocols for data handling. For some of the equipment available, we have created tutorials on our Canvas page. The tutorials can help you quickly learn how to use the specific technology you need.

Note

For any student projects, the originality of the projects will be considered. Students conducting studies at the BMS Lab must follow the general conditions and requirements of the University of Twente and the BMS Lab. Ethical approval must be obtained.
