Out now! BMS Position Paper on Impact Guiding Principles Towards Impact by Design

Do you

… hear the term “impact” often recently and are you wondering what this means?
… believe in the relevance of your work, but find it challenging to make your impact explicit?
… wonder where our faculty stands in “the impact discussion”?
… have a support need regarding impact-related activities but are you unsure where to go?

Then the Position Paper on Impact is an interesting read for you!

IMPACT BY DESIGN

The BMS Position Paper on Impact aims to describe what impact means for BMS, the (type of) impact we aim to make and how, while at the same inviting you to further explore what impact means in your own work. A key part of this is adopting Impact by Design as working method, contextualised by a set of 10 guiding principles. We hope this paper gives you a vocabulary to construct your impact narrative and in doing so make you feel proud of your work. To this end, questions and actions for individuals and teams to help reflect on their impact, are presented. Lastly, existing support is made explicit and future support offers are described.

CONNECTING THE DOTS

Making impact is a core aim of our faculty, this is also explicit in the BMS Multiannual plan, for instance through the focus on socially disruptive emerging technologies in research and addressing societal challenges in education. The position paper also provides a reference to describe our impact in the midterm research evaluation, coming November.
