BMS PhD event 13th Feb | Register for PhD Survival Workshop

As you probably already know, a PhD is unlike any other project…

A PhD project is personal, very personal! Nonetheless, many PhDs surprisingly struggle with similar issues and experience similar situations. By sharing our experiences, talk about what we encounter, we can make this tough process much more enjoyable. A PhD is the coolest thing you will ever do!

The BMS PhDs for PhDs organises an interactive workshop for all BMS PhDs, including drinks and snacks afterwards, where we discuss different ways of dealing with challenges and situations in a PhD project. How should you deal with supervisors? What can you learn from colleagues? What do you tell to friends and family at a party? With this workshop, Julia Wijnmaalen will offer practical advice to be both a successful as well as a happy PhD student!

Workshop: How to survive your PhD with Julia Wijnmaalen

Date: Monday, 13th of Februari

Time: 15:00 - 17:00 (Including drinks and snacks)

Location: Workshop in RA 2237 (Ravelijn), Drinks in Atrium (Ravelijn)

Workshop by Julia Wijnmaalen

Julia Wijnmaalen is a assistant professor Change Management and Organizational Behaviour in the BMS faculty and an organizational change consultant at the NS. During her PhD, she noticed that whenever she talked to PhD students, they bonded over the similar emotions they encountered. Regardless of the research discipline, gender, age, nationally, part-time/fulltime. We all felt the same and struggled with comparable issues. Her conclusion: we need to help each other with the “softer” elements of doing a PhD. If we share our experiences, talk about what we encounter, we can make this tough process (because it really is a tough process!) more enjoyable. For this reason, Julia wrote "The PhD Survival Guide".

For more information about enhancing your PhD experience, check out the BMS PhD Portal. We look forward to meeting you in person on the 13th of Februari!
