OBCC Research at the UT

The OBCC group focuses on how organizations, teams, leaders and employees across the supply chain can collaborate well to realise sustainable improvements and transformations. Our field studies are well-connected to managerial practice and are theoretically grounded in a unique combination of the subdisciplines: Organizational Behaviour, Change Management, Cross-cultural Management, and (Behavioural) Operations Management.

We conduct innovative field studies in businesses and non-profit organizations using high-precision behavioural video observation methods, combined with physiological and survey data as well as field-experimentation and action-research methods, as an answer to calls for scholarly innovation within the OBCC domain. Our feedback to the sampled leaders and teams in high-tech organizations/jobs improves real-world organizational change processes.

Our research is published in A-journals, such as: Journal of Organizational Behavior, The Leadership Quarterly, International Journal of Operations & Production Management, European Management Journal, International Review of Industrial and Organizational Behavior, Journal of Management Inquiry, Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management and Management Accounting Research. Publications in handbooks include the The Handbook of Organizational Culture and Climate, The Cambridge Handbook of Meeting Science, and Routledge Companion to Lean Management. Please see our Publications page to see a full list of publications.

HIGH-TECH RESEARCH METHODS

OBCC is specialized in a unique video-based behavioural observation method in which we also involve our Leadership Lab at the Ravelijn building. This method is used to analyze minute verbal and non-verbal behaviours of managers, employees and change agents in regular work settings. In cooperation with the BMSLab powered by Tech4People, we experiment with additional physiological arousal and other high-tech assessments.

VALORIZATION

In order to reach out to practitioners and share our evidence-based insights and experiences we also regularly publish our work in professional journals including Holland Management Review, Management Executive, Sigma, M&O Tijdschrift voor Management en Organisatie, Binnenlands Bestuur, Openbaar Bestuur, and even YouTube summaries of PhD theses.

Also in cooperation with our research (see below) we develop knowledge that is aimed to inspire and support professionals in the workplace.
