On June 17 and 18, Lisa Sanderink – a researcher from CSTM – organized a highly successful first workshop under the Breaking Silos project in Amsterdam. This event, hosted by the City of Amsterdam, brought together participants from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, openresearch.amsterdam, the City of Stockholm and the Swedish Viable Cities program.
The workshop featured intensive discussions on the launch and implementation of the EU Cities Mission in Amsterdam and Stockholm. It facilitated an inspiring exchange of ideas and practices among city practitioners, stakeholders and researchers involved in the Breaking Silos project.
Additionally, initial findings of the Breaking Silos project were presented. This project, funded by the Swedish Energy Agency, aims to study the EU Cities Mission by analyzing its practical application and evaluating its impacts in both Stockholm and Amsterdam. It focuses on understanding the extent to which the EU Cities Mission can bridge silos to accelerate urban transitions.
A highlight of the two-day event was an excursion to the pop-up climate museum and the “Green Light District”. This provided participants with first-hand experience of how integrated urban planning and participatory approaches are crucial in shaping Amsterdam’s journey towards becoming carbon-neutral by 2050.
The workshop was regarded as a great success. Plans are already underway for a similar workshop to be hosted in the City of Stockholm next year. This future event will continue the exchange of progress and insights between the two cities.
