Katrine Danielsen

Senior Gender Advisor, Royal Tropical Institute (KIT, Amsterdam)

Katrine Danielsen is a Senior Gender Advisor at the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT, Amsterdam). She brings more than twenty years of experience in gender equality and women’s rights in sustainable development grounded in extensive periods of field-work in Africa and Asia. She has expertise in gender and rights aware program, policy and strategy development; organizational change; capacity development; and practice oriented research. As KIT Senior Advisor she has supported international and bilateral development organizations as well as government institutions, NGOs and research organizations. She has worked in a variety of socio-economic development areas including agriculture and natural resources management, food and nutrition security, and energy access. She has developed a gender and rights-based approach to energy access that approaches access to energy services as a right. It offers an analytical framework to uncover institutional barriers to the realization of rights in energy system governance with an explicit focus on women’s rights (Gender Equality, women’s rights and access to energy services (Danielsen 2012)).
