Minor space in year 3
In the third year of the Bachelor’s programme in Applied Physics, students have 30 EC of elective minor space. This part of the curriculum offers room to broaden academic knowledge, deepen expertise in a specific field, gain international experience, prepare for a subsequent Master’s programme or obtain a teaching qualification for secondary education in the Netherlands.
The minor space allows students to shape their individual study profile within the framework of the Bachelor’s curriculum.
Minor options
UT minor
Students may choose one or two minors offered by the University of Twente. UT minors are usually offered in packages of 15 EC and cover a broad range of academic fields.

Study abroad
The minor space may be used to study abroad and add an international dimension to the Bachelor’s curriculum. Studying abroad offers students the opportunity to gain academic experience at another university, broaden their perspective, and develop intercultural and personal skills.
Planning a study abroad period requires sufficient preparation time and should start 6 to 12 months in advance.
For participation in study abroad during the first semester, students must have obtained 60 EC by 1 May when reserving a place, and 90 EC by 1 August, including the complete first year of the Bachelor’s programme. The application deadline for a minor abroad is 1 February for the first semester and 1 September for the second semester.
Before departure, approval from the Board of Examiners is required. Students must submit a request for approval using this form.
