what rooms does the designlab have?

IDEATE

Part of the open space

IDEATE provides an ideal brainstorm setting. In this area there is space to explore and analyse the context and problem. Be inspired by lectures, scientific research and gather new insight to come up with new ideas. The Designlab stimulates people to participate with projects and to interact with others.

IDEATE is, as well as CONCEPTUALISE and PROTOTYPE part of the open space of DesignLab with a presentation screen. Therefore this space is also suited for presentations which are open to join by others.

Would you like to use this space for education, research or an event? Please feel free to contact us.

LOUNGE

The LOUNGE is an area where students can relax and clear their minds. With the couches, magazines and ping-pong table, this space is the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea from the KITCHEN. CONCEPTUALISE

Part of the open space
Capacity: 35

CONCEPTUALISE is, as well as IDEATE and PROTOTYPE, part of the open space. This space is suited best for translating ideas into concepts. Mobile TV screens, whiteboards and flip-overs can be used to present something to a project group and by using creative material groups can easily make small prototypes. This space is used for project work, collaboration, meet-ups, creating the first idea's of a protoype or other forms of education where no presentations are held.

Would you like to use this space for education, research or and event? Please feel free contact us!

PROTOTYPE

Part of the open space
Capacity: 35

PROTOTYPE is, as well as IDEATE and CONCEPTUALISE, part of the open space. This space is suited best for rapid prototyping and working within groups on projects. The space is adjacent to the eWorkshop and mWorkshop which makes it easy to switch between prototyping in the workshops and discussing with the group in the space outside.

Would you like to use this space for education, research or an event? Please feel free to contact us.

mWORKSHOP

Capacity workshops: 15 per workshop

The mWORKSHOP provides all kinds of large machines and manual tools meant for all physical processing methods, such as drilling, sanding, sawing, etc. Students and researchers are asked to use their own materials, but can use small materials which are present if they like. Our TechTeam  available to help you with making these rapid prototypes for research or educational projects. If you would like to use this space for a project, just drop in. If you would like to come with a group of students or researchers, please reserve this space and our TechTeam so you're guaranteed to have space.

eWORKSHOP

Capacity workshops: 15 per workshop

The eWORKSHOP provides all the electronic equipment and rapid prototyping machines like solder, 3D printers and a huge laser cutter. By protoyping the concepts can be tested, evaluated and improved where necessary. For examples specifications about 3D printing or Laser cutting.

Our TechTeam available to help you with making these rapid prototypes for research or educational projects. If you would like to use this space for a project, just drop in. If you would like to come with a group of students or researchers, please reserve this space and our TechTeam so you're guaranteed to have space.

For assistance in the workshops our Tech Team is available to help in making prototypes for research aswell as for education that fits the philosophy of our DesignLab.

COCKPIT

An office space for Dream Team or Tech Team working in DesignLab.

PLAYGROUND

This is the space with the black floor with sensors and beamers attached to the ceiling. For example, an electronical version of ‘tag’ (tikkertje) could be played here, by projecting a red circle beneath the tagger. This way an even more interactive version of the game is created.

CLASSROOM OF THE FUTURE

Capacity: 120

The Classroom of the Future is particularly suitable for encouraging active learning. The remarkable, uneven setup of the room has a positive effect on the processes of:

  • teacher - student interaction
  • interaction among students in a group (collaboration)
  • interaction between/among groups

The facilities in the Classroom of the Future differ from the standard classrooms on various aspects that make some creative didactical methods possible. Also the aim for the Classroom of the Future is supporting new developments in didactical concepts.

Features of the Classroom of the Future are:

  • Plenary space (in the front of the room): you can seat a maximum of 120 students. There is also the possibility to use the video wall or use multiple interactive boards (three to four).
  • Flexible group spaces: enclosures for a group of students. They can use the interactive boards (also only for presenting) and regular whiteboards. The Interactive boards can be used as normal computer screen or as a wireless presentation screen (via wepresent software).
  • Software and applications: The software on the interactive boards is standard Windows software. For wireless presenting the Wepresent software is needed to make a connection.

Would you like to use this space, please contact University Library, ICT Services and Archive.
