Physical principles of drop-based energy harvesting: new paper published in Physical Review Letters.
Drop-based energy harvesting, i.e. the direct conversion of kinetic energy falling drops into electricity has attracted substantial attention in recent years leading with various types of so-called “nanogenerators”. In this article, we analyze the physical principles of the energy conversion process, derive scaling laws, and illustrate pathways to optimization as well as physical limits of the approach. The articles was highlighted as Editor’s Suggestion in PRL, featured in Nature and in a more general overview on trends in physics by APS.
