Prof. Dr. Claudia Filippi receives M2-NWO grant

PROF. DR. CLAUDIA FILIPPI, TOGETHER WITH DR. REMCO HAVENITH (WORKING AT THE RIJKSUNIVERSITEIT GRONINGEN), RECEIVED A M2-NWO GRANT OF 745,000 EUROS FOR THEIR PROJECT "ACCURATE WAVE FUNCTIONS THAT TELL A CHEMICAL STORY."

Quantum mechanical simulations have become increasingly important in the design of new functional materials powered by solar energy. While computer simulations can provide crucial information, translating these results into design principles remains a challenge. The recently awarded research project aims to develop a novel methodology for describing light-driven processes that are not only accurate but also easily interpreted chemically.

Prof. Dr. Claudia Filippi emphasises the importance of this research:

To effectively simulate light-driven processes in a predictive manner, computational tools must be accurate and efficient, and also produce results which are easily interpretable in a chemical language.

The M2-NWO grant, awarded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), recognises and supports excellent scientific research with societal impact. The EUR 745,000 grant will be used to fund two PhD students and expand the local computer cluster.

The team looks forward to the challenges and discoveries the research will bring and is determined to contribute to advances in the field of photoactive materials.
