Curaçao recognises medical technicians as an independent healthcare professionThe profession of clinical technologist is now also recognised outside the Netherlands. In Curaçao, the role has been added to the local register of healthcare professionals, the equivalent of the Dutch BIG register. UT alumna Rianne Tsai was instrumental in securing this recognition. She is also the first clinical technologist to be listed in such a register outside the Netherlands.
Tsai is from Suriname and, whilst studying Technical Medicine at the UT, wanted to do an internship abroad. She spotted Curaçao on the list of internship destinations. “Curaçao is quite close to Suriname, so I thought: I’ll just give it a go,” says Tsai. During her master’s placement at the Curaçao Medical Centre (CMC), she set up a 3D lab together with surgeon David Nellensteijn. They bought a 3D printer and produced the first surgical plans.Read more
National boost for Hospitals of the FutureThe Dutch government will invest €102.5 million in the country’s medical technology sector over the next ten years.
