Landscaping the Roombeek

The natural course of Roombeek, which flows through the campus, has been preserved. After the fireworks disaster in the Roombeek neighborhood in 2000, it was decided to make the old Roombeek flow visibly again. From the neighborhood, the stream now twists and turns to the campus. In 2012, the Vechtstroom Water Board constructed the ingenious underpass under Drienerlolaan: an impressive feat of engineering art. The city and the campus are now connected by water. To emphasize this and promote biodiversity, plants that help local insect species thrive have been planted around the underpass.
