Did you know that the production of meat and dairy uses more land area and water and produces more CO2 emissions than plant-based food? That is why UT, together with caterer Appèl, is participating in this year's National Week Without Meat (Dutch website), from 6-12 March. You will find a special offer of plant-based and vegetarian food in all canteens this week. The canteen in the Horst is completely vegetarian during this week.

Appèl and UT have been working with Greendish since September 2022 to create a menu within planetary boundaries. Taking part in the Week Without Meat fits with that goal. The catering staff will therefore also test new recipes for, for example, sandwiches and hot meals this week: if dishes turn out to be popular, they will remain in the range after the Week Without Meat. You can influence this by voting for your favourite veggie sandwich in the canteen until Wednesday 8 March. In the canteens, you will also find did-you-knows about the impact of food on your ecological footprint: your foodprint.
Of course, you can also take part in the Week Without Meat when you’re not eating on campus. More information, tips and recipes can be found on the website (in Dutch).
