UT endorses Earth Day

22 April 1970 is the day that marks the start of the modern environmental movement. Earth Day is a yearly event to drive transformative change for the environment, people and the planet in general. More than 75 thousand partners are collectively working to diversify, educate and activate this movement. This year, for the 50th anniversary of the Earth Day, the UT became an Earth Day Network Green Campus partner.

What can you do?

This year during Earth Day we would like to share five tips about what you can do to become more environmentally friendly today:

  1. Become a climate activist for Earth Day and speak up on social media about the environment: #EarthDay
  2. Go for a walk and cleanup some rubbish in your neighbourhood.
  3. Fight climate change by changing to a more plant-based diet. You can for instance skip meat one day a week.
  4. Join a zero waste challenge. For one day note down what you eat, drink and use. Collect all packaging and waste and think about how to reduce that.
  5. Check out the online Earth Day, for 24 hours of global digital action. You can find livestreamed discussions, performances and calls to actions that you can take today.

Sustainability policy

The Executive Board recently approved of a new policy for sustainable operational management. There are ten different themes on which the UT will focus, ranging from energy and water usage to waste reduction and reducing the impact from travel. Soon, a Green Hub will be set up, a new initiative supporting the implementation of Shaping 2030
