The Technology, Human and Institutional Behaviour (HIB)-department is currently seeking six Assistant Professors in the domains of online social movement using big data, public administration and digital transformation, smart city governance, mental resilience, digital narrative and resistance to technology.
The section PGT in the HIB-department is currently seeking an assistant professor (1,0 fte) in the area of Mental Resilience.
Current society has a strong focus on efficiency, with the aim to achieve the best possible results with the least possible resources. From individual, organizational, and societal perspectives, efficient sociotechnological systems can become rigid or even resistant to changing contexts. The current COVID-19 pandemic provides an example, showing the need for a broader approach with a focus on change, adaptiveness and flexibility. From a psychological perspective, mental resilience can be conceptualized as a competence to regulate development even in face of changing social contexts. The promotion of mental resilience includes both clinical psychological approaches that aim to prevent and treat psychological problems and complaints as well as positive psychological approaches that aim to protect and promote well-being. An important challenge is to design technologies for mental resilience, like sensing technologies or virtual reality. These technologies in turn need to be adaptive to provide just in time solutions to changing contexts and needs of users. One main challenge is to link further theoretical conceptualizations of mental resilience to technological design. Another main challenge is to develop research methods like experience sampling and data science that can be used to study the dynamic nature of mental resilience and technological adaptiveness.
You will develop and contribute to research in this exciting field in the group Psychology, Health, and Technology, but you will also work together with colleagues from communication science and public administration in the broader department Human and Institutional Behavior. You will contribute to Faculty themes like health and resilience as well as collaborate university-wide with technological groups in the Techmed Centre and the Digital Society Institute. You will contribute to education in the Bachelor and Master of Psychology, which are among the best rated programmes in the Netherlands. Besides contributions to modules and courses, you will outline research topics for Bachelor and Master theses that you will supervise.
- Show vision and results-oriented drive (seeing opportunities and possibilities, showing ambition);
- be an interdisciplinary team worker, collaborating with scholars from different backgrounds in social sciences and technology;
- have a real passion for, and the ambition to become a creative and effective teacher, possessing an (equivalent of) University Teaching Qualification certificate, or be willing to obtain this
- hold a PhD degree in a relevant discipline, preferably Psychology;
- have experience in research, which is apparent from (successful) grant applications, publications in reputable academic journals, presentations in international scientific conferences, and other academic activities;
- have experience in design and research in innovative technologies;
- possess good communication skills and an excellent command of English and good command of Dutch is preferable.
