Strategic Policy Advisor (0,8-1,0 fte)

Job description

As a Policy Advisor at the department of Strategy & Policy you will play a leading role in translating this mission in concrete policies and actions. Are you interested to make a difference in the way how the UT generates economic and societal impact and do you have experience with open science, or (regional) innovation ecosystems or impact pathways? You will be an indispensable link between the research and knowledge transfer activities at the UT and society. Your activities will focus on the development and facilitation of policies to generate impact via the research activities at the UT.  

You will:

  • be responsible for a set of strategic projects, which includes policy coordination between university administrators and relevant organizational units within the UT.
  • take a pro-active role in external networks in the domain of higher education and research and employ these experiences for advice and support within the UT organization.
  • represent the UT in meetings with other knowledge institutes, public and private partners and develop relations with these organizations.
  • develop a strategic vision, and act as initiator and supporter of initiatives.

You will join a team of colleagues with a high level of professional commitment and who collaborate in an informal atmosphere.

Your profile

You are a driven and enthusiastic result-oriented advisor who is able to translate external developments to strategic opportunities for the UT. You are capable of strengthening the position of the UT as an entrepreneurial university generating economic and societal impact.

You have:

  • a Master’s degree or equivalent.
  • the ability to connect people with different mind sets and perspectives in order to develop a convincing line of action.
  • experience with policy making and advice, preferably related to economic and societal impact.
  • knowledge of regional innovation ecosystems, open science or impact pathways.
  • a relevant network and the ability to employ this network effectively.
  • stress-resistant attitude and a high self-starting capability.
  • for a senior advisor: proven experience in project and process management and able to achieve results in a complex administrative setting within intricate decision-making structures.

Our offer

We offer a challenging full-time position in an inspiring multidisciplinary and international environment. The successful candidate will be employed for the duration of 1 year. Depending on your performance, we hope to renew for another 2 years or to offer an employment contract for an indefinite period. Your gross monthly salary will be between € 3.746,-- and € 5.826,-- (gross salary and fulltime employment), depending on your background and relevant experience. Additionally, the University of Twente provides excellent facilities for professional and personal development, an 8% holiday allowance, and an 8,3% end of year bonus.

About the department

Cluster Research & Knowledge Transfer
You will work at the cluster Research & Knowledge Transfer. At the department of Strategy & Policy we coordinate the design and monitoring of the UT’s research and impact policies and facilitate their execution. The cluster builds strong relations with other research universities, universities of applied sciences, governmental organizations and other stakeholders.  We create links and close ties between the Executive Board, the faculties, the scientific institutes and external stakeholders. 

In the cluster and the department we work on various strategic themes, that are essential for an ambitious university like the UT. These include: the implementation of the new Shaping2030 and Research Strategy, collaboration between the Free University Amsterdam and the UT, ECIU University, policies to support the generation of impact, collaboration in regional ecosystems, Open Science, strategic positioning of the UT research portfolio in national and international networks, PhD policies, research integrity, research quality management, and policies for research talents.

Strategy & Policy (S&P)

Strategy & Policy (S&P) is one of UT's central service departments. We coordinate the formulation, design, monitoring and adjustment of UT's strategy and central policy programmes. Internally, we create links and close ties between the Executive Board, faculties and scientific institutes. Externally, we build strong relations with other universities, higher educational institutes, and other stakeholders.
