Assistant professor in Science Technology for Transformation Research

Job description

Deep transformative change is needed to ensure wellbeing and sustainability. But how can science and technology contribute to these processes of transformation? Are you interested in this question? We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious academic to strengthen our team!

Responsibilities

As an assistant professor, you will do research and teaching on the contribution of science and technology, including the role of universities, to sustainability transformations. The position has a strong interdisciplinary profile and you will work with colleagues from diverse social science, natural science, engineering, and humanities perspectives. You will design and undertake innovative research, develop and execute teaching activities, facilitate collaboration and reflection, and co-produce strategies and options for action.

Your profile

  • Holds a PhD in science & technology studies, political science, environmental social science or another relevant filed.
  • Fits with the thematic focus described above, as demonstrated by relevant research experience and publications.
  • Has good didactic skills and experience with education at BSc, MSc or PhD levels in the social sciences as well as for interdisciplinary audiences.
  • Has obtained, or is willing to obtain, a University Teaching Qualification certificate
  • Is creative and a good communicator. Is able to communicate clearly to multiple audiences, and interact successfully with academics, professionals, and lay audiences.

Our offer

We offer a permanent position with a one-year probationary period (formally a 1-year contract with prospect of permanent contract). The starting salary, depending on your experience, ranges between € 3.807 to € 6.421 gross per month (in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities), based on the job profile Assistant or Associate Professor. In addition, the University of Twente offers additional attractive employment conditions (8% holiday allowance, 8.3% end-of-year bonus, solid pension scheme, sabbatical leave, professional and personal development programs, etc.).

The STePS section is part of the department of Technology, Policy, Society (TPS), in which we closely collaborate with Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) and with sections on environmental and energy systems, philosophy, and health technology. We deliver world-leading interdisciplinary research, intensive education and high-impact interventions. We assess the role of science and technology in processes of social change, decision making, transformation and innovation, studying the past and anticipating the future. We work towards better governance of knowledge and innovation, addressing major societal challenges. The Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social sciences (BMS) aims to play a pivotal role in understanding, co-engineering and evaluating innovation in society.
