At the Biomedical Photonic Imaging group of the University of Twente, a team lead by prof. Ivo Vellekoop is developing radically new approaches to microscopy. The aim of your project is to construct a prototype of a new microscope with an extremely large field of view for use in neuroscience and other life sciences.
As pioneers of complex wavefront shaping, we are continuously working on improving imaging in extreme situations, including imaging through non-transparent objects. In our multidisciplinary team we cover a broad spectrum of topics, reaching from fundamental research on light propagation, and the development of extremely efficient numerical methods, to machine learning and experimental microscopy. We offer a very open, dynamic, and collaborative environment where you can broaden your horizon and contribute your expertise to numerous other projects.
Are you interested in taking up this challenge? We are looking for an experimentally skilled researcher:
- Experience with optics design in Zemax or other ray-tracing software.
- Experience in designing and building optical setups, preferably imaging systems.
- Proficient in MATLAB, Python, C or other programming language.
- You have a good command of the English language both verbally and in writing.
- You like to work in an inspiring, multi-disciplinary team of researchers and engage with potential industrial partners.
What will you do?
In this project you will:
- Design a novel type of microscope, minimizing aberrations over a large field of view and balancing trade-offs to meet the required specifications.
- Use our code framework to implement and improve wavefront shaping algorithms for obtaining sharp images in extreme circumstances.
- Work together closely with end users and industrial partners to demonstrate these novel concepts in proof-of-concept optical experiments.
- Publish your work and present at top conferences.
In accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, the gross salary for a postdoc is in scale 10-4 (€ 3.408,-- gross per month), plus a holiday allowance (8%), and end-year bonus (8,3%) of the annual salary. The assignment is 18 months, with a possible extension depending on the funding situation after that period.
