Video in education

How can instructional videos empower educators and students to personalise learning, increase flexibility, and rethink what's possible in course design and delivery?

Whether used to flip the classroom, support self-paced study, or enhance traditional teaching, video opens up new opportunities to teach and learn!

Introduction

Creating educational videos has never been easier. There are many ways to produce your content, whether you prefer recording from the comfort of your (home) office using PowerPoint’s built-in recording tools or opting for a professional production in a dedicated video studio with support from the UT video team. Videos can be used to (partially) replace traditional lectures or serve as supplementary reference material for your students. To further enhance your content, you can use H5P to make your videos interactive and engaging. Additional equipment is also available at our Learning & Teaching Lab, which you are welcome to explore. Feel free to contact us anytime for support or advice!

Videos offer a flexible way to enhance your teaching. They allow students to learn at their own pace and revisit content when needed, supporting more personalised and self-directed learning. Videos also make it easier to experiment with different educational approaches, such as flipped classrooms or other blended learning models. Not ready for a major change? You can always start small by integrating a single instructional video into your course.

Training

To guide you through all these facilities, a course "Microlectures and where to find them" is available for you. This blended course will help you through the process of producing your microlecture: from designing your education to filming your video, while exploring the facilities along the way.

Want to start today? Check the Canvas page "Microlectures and where to find them" to guide you along the way.
