The Learning & Teaching Lab aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for you to try out new concepts, tools, and technologies. Step outside your comfort zone, take risks, and push the boundaries of traditional teaching. We celebrate both successes and failures as valuable learning experiences.

Below you can find answers to frequently asked questions related to the Learning & Teaching Lab:
- Finding and accessing the Lab
- Where can I find the Lab?
The Learning & Teaching Lab is located at the Citadel, room T300 (the letter T stands for Tower). As soon as you enter the Citadel, you can use the stairs or the elevator to take you to the third floor.
When using the stairs, you will find the Learning & Teaching Lab directly on your right side as soon as you have left the staircase. When using the elevator, turn to the left when you step out of the elevator and walk across the landing to find the Learning & Teaching Lab in front of you.
- How do I access the Lab?
The Learning & Teaching Lab is located in the Citadel, room T300. Make sure that you have reserved the room upfront (see 'Booking and using the Lab'). To gain access to the Lab, all you need to do is collect a key card from the friendly staff at the Ravelijn Servicedesk before your scheduled meeting begins.
Please use the lab responsibly and neatly, so that others can enjoy the space as much as you do (see 'Facilities and rules').

You can book the Learning & Teaching Lab for activities, meetings and celebrations related to educational innovation, educational quality improvement and/or educational community building.
Most furniture pieces in the Learning & Teaching Lab are movable to facilitate different kinds of setups.
Examples of activities you could organise in the Learning & Teaching Lab are:
- Inspirational sessions or markets related to educational innovation
- Practical, hands-on workshops about existing or new e-tools
- Seminars related to emerging technologies that impact our education
- Hackatons to solve specific educational challenges within a programme
- Celebrations to acknowledge specific accomplishments and spotlight teachers
- Presentations of research projects related to educational innovation
- Experiments with new teaching methods in the context of an active (hybrid) learning space
The Learning & Teaching Lab can provide expertise to support these kinds of activities.
Tip: If you want to organize a hybrid meeting session, we strongly recommend you to book the room for a short 'practice session' to get familiar with the AV set-up of the Learning & Teaching Lab, and/or take into account some 'preparation time' prior to your meeting.
- Who can book the Lab?
The Learning & Teaching Lab can be booked by UT teaching/programme staff and educational support staff for activities, meetings and celebrations related to educational innovation, educational quality improvement and/or educational community building. The Learning & Teaching Lab is a central facility that is provided and managed by employees of the central departments CES-CELT and TELT.
- How can I book the Lab?
Disclaimer: Before submitting a request to book the Learning & Teaching Lab, please keep in mind that the space can be booked for activities, meetings and celebrations related to educational innovation, educational quality improvement and/or educational community building.
The purpose of your meeting will be checked by the managers of the Learning & Teaching Lab. We will process your booking if it fits the scope of the Learning & Teaching Lab and based on the availability of the space.
There are two ways to reserve the room:
Option 1: Send an e-mail
Send a message to ltl@utwente.nl with the preferred date and time, and the estimated number of participants. Also include a brief description of why and how you would like to use the Learning & Teaching Lab. Your request will be processed as soon as possible. Before sending us an e-mail, you can check the availability of the room yourself via the Outlook calendar of 'Citadel-Room-T300 (Learning & Teaching Lab)'.
Option 2: Send an Outlook calendar request
- Go to your Outlook calendar and organize a meeting.
- Under the Location field, look for 'Citadel-Room-T300 (Learning & Teaching Lab)'.
- Use the text field to briefly describe why and how you would like to use the Learning & Teaching Lab. Also, don't forget to include the estimated number of participants.
- Send the meeting request.
- If the room is available at the given date and time, your request will automatically be approved tentatively. We will manually review the request as soon as possible.
- If the room is unavailable at the given date and time, your request will automatically be denied. You can check the availability of the room yourself using the room's Outlook calendar and send a new meeting request.

- Are there costs associated with booking the Lab?
- How many people fit in the Lab?
The space can accommodate a maximum of 40-50 persons, depending on the type of meeting or event you want to organize. Most furniture pieces in the Learning & Teaching Lab can be moved around or adapted to fit different situations. The room can suit approximately 40-50 people in a theatre or traditional classroom setting. If you want to organize a more interactive meeting where people can move around (e.g. poster presentations, demonstrations, markets), we recommend you invite a maximum of 40 people. The space also has the option to split up large groups into smaller groups which can subsequently have their own 'corner' to work on a certain topic or question. In this case, we recommend a group size of 40 people maximum.
- Facilities and rules
- What audio-visual (AV) resources are available in the Lab?
The AV set-up of the Learning & Teaching Lab includes:
- 2 large (touch) screens with digital whiteboard functionalities
- 1 camera positioned in the back of the room (pointed at the presenter)
- 1 camera positioned in front of the room (pointed at the participants)
- A microphone that is attached to the ceiling
- A small panel to manage the large screens
- A small panel to manage Microsoft Teams meetings
- Remotes to (manually) control the cameras
- Sound boxes
- Several smaller screens (positioned on movable cabinets) with detachable webcams with built-in microphones
The Learning & Teaching Lab uses a hybrid meeting solution that is called Microsoft Teams Rooms to connect with remote attendees. You don’t need to connect your notebook to a central screen or camera, the room itself is part of the meeting. This means you don't have to worry about cables or configurations when you enter the room. More information about Microsoft Teams Rooms can be found on the website of LISA.

- Which equipment can I try-out in the Lab?
The Learning & Teaching Lab is a safe and supportive environment for educators to try out new technologies related to learning and teaching. Below you can find a list of different kinds of equipment that are available to try out.
In consultation with the managers of the Lab, it's possible to borrow some of the equipment for a certain period of time. Please keep in mind the scope of the Learning & Teaching Lab: activities should be related to educational innovation, educational quality improvement and/or educational community building.

- Can I organise a lunch or drink in the Lab?
Lunch & drinks are only possible if it's part of the event. The Learning & Teaching Lab cannot be used for drinks and dinners only.
You are responsible for arranging the catering yourself. Contact the secretary of your faculty or department if you need help with this.
- What are the house rules of the Lab?
To ensure a positive and productive experience for all, we kindly ask you to adhere to the following house rules:
Experiment: The Lab is a safe and supportive environment for everyone to try out new concepts, tools, and technologies. Celebrate both successes and failures as valuable learning experiences.
Foods & drinks: You're allowed to use food and drinks if this is part of your event or celebration. Please make sure to leave the space tidy. Cleaning cloth and cleaning spray are available for general use.
Time slots: Honor your reserved time slots. If you no longer require your reserved time, kindly cancel or reschedule to allow others to utilize the space.
Equipment: Handle all equipment, tools, and resources with care. Report any damages or malfunctions to the Lab staff promptly or by sending an e-mail to ltl@utwente.nl.
Collaboration: Embrace the spirit of collaboration and sharing. Engage in constructive discussions, exchange ideas, and support each other's learning journeys.
Cleanliness: Please do your part to keep the space tidy. Cleaning cloth and cleaning spray are available for general use.
Furniture: Most furniture pieces in the Learning & Teaching Lab can be moved around or adapted to fit different situations. Please make sure to put back the furniture to its original arrangement when you leave the room (see below).
