project description
The MEDSEAPLAN project aims to advance Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) and support the sustainable blue economy in the Mediterranean region. With a focus on data-driven decision-making, the project integrates innovative monitoring systems, socio-economic analysis, and stakeholder engagement to address key challenges in offshore renewable energy and marine planning. Our contributions to the project include the structural design and analysis of floating data buoys, which will be deployed to collect high-resolution meteorological and oceanographic data essential for offshore wind and green hydrogen potential assessment. We also support data acquisition and post-processing, ensuring the seamless integration of collected data into the broader Digital Twin framework for MSP decision-making. Additionally, we are developing advanced sensor health monitoring techniques, enhancing the reliability of real-time ocean data collection. Beyond technical innovation, our work also explores the socio-economic feasibility of offshore wind energy and hydrogen production in Mediterranean countries, assessing market potential, policy frameworks, and regional impacts. By bridging engineering, environmental, and economic insights, MEDSEAPLAN lays the foundation for future-proof maritime policies, resilient coastal management, and sustainable energy solutions in the Mediterranean.
