In loving memory of Assem Zharbossyn

It is with great sorrow that we bid farewell to Assem Zharbossyn, who tragically passed away in a car accident on the evening of January 17th, 2023. Assem was an Early Stage Researcher associated with the TUSAIL training program. She was not just a former colleague, but a shining star and valued member of the MSM and SMM team at the University of Twente, where she actively participated in meetings from the beginning of her project. We were honored to have her join our team in February 2023, but our joy was short-lived as we received the tragic news of her departure. Assem was not only a brilliant researcher, but also a warm, kind, and humble individual who radiated positivity and compassion towards all she interacted with. 

 We would like to share some heartfelt words from her colleagues: 

"Assem was a young woman with kind manners, seriously committed to work, ready to support her colleagues, eager to learn from teachers and more experienced colleagues, and highly motivated to complete her scientific training. Her presence as a young researcher and as a generous and modest person will be deeply missed by her PhD colleagues and by the professors who got to know her" - The Powder Technology research group at the University of Salerno. 

"Assem was modest, quiet, and reserved as well as being a generous soul with great kindness. She was a highly motivated researcher who was seriously committed to her work. She was always supportive to her colleagues and ever eager to learn from others. A very promising researcher with great potential, she will be much missed by all who knew her. " - Jin Ooi, Professor of Particulate Solid Mechanics at the University of Edinburgh.
