Estimation of Origin-Destination matrices for the public transport network from Geneva, Switzerland (2023-8)

Assignment no: 2023-8

Start of the project: ASAP

Required course(s): -

Involved organisation(s): UT-ET-CEM-TEM; Transports Publics Genevois (TPG)

The University of Twente has set a collaboration with TPG to develop research topics on the field of public transport. In the present thesis, the objective is to analyse temporal and spatial variations of demand patterns for the city of Geneva, by estimating Origin-Destination matrices at the network level. Extensive data collected by TPG is provided for the project, consisting of the number of passenger boarding and alighting vehicles at each stop of the network, as well a multimodal matrices collected using a smartphone-based survey. The expected contribution of this thesis is both practical (as the matrices to be developed are valuable for service planning purposes at TPG), and scientific (as the student will use state-of-the-art methods to obtain results at different temporal resolutions).
