We are very proud that Luuk van Laar won the Bachelor Scriptieprijs 2021 of the Koninklijk Nederlands Waternetwerk. Luuk studied the erosion resistance of fully sandy levees. Regular safety assessment methods cannot handle such levees without grass or clay cover. So Luuk developed a new method to quantitively judge the erosion safety. He then applied this to a sandy levee of Waterschap Vallei en Veluwe at Kloosterbos. In the future, this method can also be used by other water authorities responsible for fully sandy levees.
Luuk conducted his bachelor thesis at Waterschap Vallei and Veluwe, under supervision of Reindert Stellignwerf and Daan Poppema.
