The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science (EEMCS) at the University of Twente has made a significant contribution to the national association for women mathematicians, EWM-NL. In total, five of the 25 board members in the history of EWM-NL have been affiliated with EEMCS, highlighting the faculty as an important hub for women in mathematics.
Founded in 2013 and supported by the Platform Wiskunde Nederland (PWN) and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), EWM-NL aims to connect women mathematicians, support their careers, and increase their visibility. Over the years, 25 mathematicians have served on the board, five of whom were affiliated with the University of Twente. This underscores the appeal of the EEMCS faculty for women in mathematics.
Currently, Silke Glas and Dzemila Sero serve on the EWM-NL board, while Rianne de Heide, Clara Stegenhuis and Maria Vlasiou have previously held positions on the board. Their contributions exemplify the supportive environment for women mathematicians fostered by the faculty.
With five of the 25 board members in EWM-NL’s history coming from EEMCS, the faculty plays a leading role in supporting women mathematical talent and advancing diversity within mathematics in the Netherlands.
