The Ph.D. student funded by this grant will delve into the analysis, implementation, and application of novel numerical methods to efficiently and accurately compute volume integral operators that lie at the core of powerful integral equation formulations of acoustic, elastic, and electromagnetic wave equations. These methods hold the potential to significantly enhance the accuracy, geometric flexibility, efficiency, and implementation costs of wave equation solvers. As a result, they will have the opportunity to make significant contributions to cutting-edge research at the intersection of computational mathematics and its applications in physics, engineering, and material sciences, with a specific focus on addressing direct and inverse problems in nanophotonics and plasmonics.
