The 6G Future Network Services (FNS) Project, supported by the Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK), is selected as one of the 18 projects out of 47 proposals in the Third Round of the Dutch National Growth Fund. The 6G FNS consortium, led by TNO, consists of 60 partners including UT, TU/e, TU Delft, VU, and UvA, along with many stakeholders such as leading telecom and semiconductor manufacturers, mobile operators, and ICT companies. The National Growth Fund invests a maximum of € 203 million in this project for a period of six years. The fund consists of a conditional award of €61 million and a reserve of €142 million.
6G FNS aims at building a strategic and leading position in the development and application of 6G networks for unlocking the innovation potential of the Dutch industry, contributing to the European pre-standardization efforts, and training the next generation of engineers and researchers.
The University of Twente’s research groups are well represented in the proposal’s program lines. The RS and ICD groups will contribute to PL1 Intelligent Components. The Centre for Networked Systems and Intelligence (EDGE), consisting of the CAES, DACS, and PS groups, will contribute to PL2 Intelligent Networks. Congratulations to Hans van de Berg and Geert Heijenk, who were actively involved in initiating the proposal, and to André Kokkeler (RS, PL1) and Suzan Bayhan (EDGE/DACS, PL2), who have coordinated the UT’s efforts in this proposal.
