De Oliveira Schmidt
It is with pain in my heart that I would like to inform you of the sad news that our former PhD student and colleague Ricardo de Oliveira Schmidt passed away (02/03/2023) in a tragic car accident at the age of 38.
Ricardo was my friend and my PhD daily supervisor. He did his PhD research and postdoctoral researcher within the chair of Design and Analysis of Communication Systems (DACS) at the University of Twente. He contributed to research at important international research centers, such as the Information Sciences Institute of the University of Southern California and the IP Networking Lab of the Université Catholique de Louvain. He was a professor at the Computer Science Department of the University of Passo Fundo, Brazil. He was the co-founder and Chief Product Officer (CPO) for the startup called NDM Global.
After some time in the Netherlands, he returned to Brazil to find the joy of his life. He met his wife (Vanessa) and they had their little girl (Bella). He was an amazing and dedicated father and husband. He was in love with his family.
With a respectful, joyful, and determined attitude, he was always ready to help others. Everybody that was working with him, was impressed by his deep knowledge, and kind attitude. With him we lose a smart, passioned, honest and sweet person and someone with an enormous passion for technology. Ricardo will be greatly missed.
We will keep Ricardo, Vanessa and Bella, family, friends and those close to him in our thoughts and send our heartfelt condolences in this time of great loss.
