Pieter-Tjerk de Boer wins one of the UT-in-the-media Awards

DACS member Pieter-Tjerk de Boer was presented with one of the UT-in-the-media Awards during the annual University of Twente New Year’s breakfast. He received the award for the coverage of the WebSDR project in the context of the war in Ukraine. The WebSDR project, initiated by Pieter-Tjerk in 2008, gives users the opportunity to tune into short-wave radio transmissions. During the first days of the war in Ukraine, it became clear that it was possible to listen in to unencrypted radio transmissions of Russian troops using the WebSDR. This was covered extensively by various media outlets including the Dutch public broadcasting services and the New York Times.

The award was presented to Pieter-Tjerk by the president of the executive board, Vinod Subramanian, during the New Year’s breakfast.
