UT has the best science communicator of the Netherlands.

Jair Santanna, an assistant professor at the Design and Analysis of Communication Systems group and technical consultancy to the Dutch National High Tech Crime Unit police, won the competition for the best science communicator in the Netherlands.

The competition is called FameLab and it is the biggest event for scientific communicators worldwide. Famelab is organised by the British Council, involves more than third countries and more than nine thousand competitors. Each Famelab competitor has three minutes to present a scientific topic for a lay audience. The competitor with best content, clarity and charisma wins. In only three minutes, Jair explained in an engaging and enthusiastic way what is and how to solve Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. Jair explained DDoS attacks using the analogy of a crowded King’s day. Now, after winning the national competition, Jair is preparing for the worldwide competition in Cheltenham (UK).
