Diederik Jekel dives into the world of Willem Kolff, the Dutch doctor who during World War II made the very first artificial kidney from a sewing machine engine, a sausage skin, a pump from an old T-Ford and a piece of a bomber.
Jekel is going to try to make one, too, with help from the PhD students of the AOT research group of S&T. Together they took up the challenge and recreated Willem Kolff's historic kidney dialysis machine.
