A nationwide protest against the budget cuts in higher education will be held on Thursday 14 November. The trade unions and WOinActie took the initiative for this protest, which will take place in Utrecht on 14 November from 1pm to 3pm (exact location TBD, follow WoinActie for more information)
The Executive Board and the faculty deans wholeheartedly support this initiative, as we believe it is important that concerns about the budget cuts are expressed not only from the institutions, but also from employees and students.
To enable participation, but at the same time ensure that students suffer as little disruption as possible during their studies, the following applies to this situation.
For employees
- Employees who wish to participate do not have to take a day off to do so. This falls under special leave.
- Employees who wish to take part in the protest action will make arrangements with their managers. There may be weighty arguments that make their presence at the university necessary.
- Travel expenses will not be reimbursed by UT.
- Teachers will ensure that students are taught all the material within the duration of a subject;
- Scheduled tests go ahead. An employee who would be unable to attend as a result will seek a solution in consultation with their supervisor;
For students
- Scheduled tests will go ahead.
- There is no attendance requirement for students on 14 November (except for patient care and compulsory practicals that cannot be made up/rescheduled);
- Making up missed material is the student's responsibility.
