On our way to a Futureproof Educational Portfolio

The Faculty of Engineering Technology is step by step sharpening its strategies. Recently an ET research strategy has been defined. We are now working on a futureproof Educational Portfolio, to be decided about beginning of 2024.

Why now an educational strategy?

The faculty has started working on an educational strategy (defining a futureproof Educational Portfolio) because a clear educational profile is needed for guiding decisions about programmes and for attracting the right (number of) students in a highly competitive market. What students do we want to attract, what do we want them to learn, should we develop more flexible programme offerings, is the scope of our programs still up to date? These and many more questions will guide the work in the next months to get clarity about our educational profile and portfolio.

Defining a futureproof educational portfolio is an urgent challenge because conditions for university education are changing rapidly. Character of our student population will change in coming years: generation Alpha (born between 2010 and 2025) is smaller, more digitally literate, more diverse and looking for more flexibility in their educational journey. Development of Lifelong Learning in the next years contributes to a radical change of our student population. And policy developments at the Ministry of Education will have impact on our policies towards internationalization, and on our financial recourses. So we have to be very clear about how we want to further develop our educational profile to stay strong in a changing environment.

How do we work on developing a futureproof educational portfolio?

Initiated by the Faculty Board, a project team of 9 members (Vice Dean Education, program directors, support staff, educational expertise) is now working on developing an ET vision on education and on a number of scenarios for a futureproof educational portfolio. These scenarios will define key choices for the faculty about our profile and the focus of our educational portfolio for the years to come. We warmly invite students and staff of our faculty to participate in discussions about the scenarios and the vision during the second half of this year. We will also discuss the scenarios with other faculties, the Executive Board and external stakeholders. Decision making will take place in the beginning of 2024.

Questions?

In September we will further inform you about the ET Educational Vision and about the scenarios for a futureproof educational portfolio.

Do you have any questions? Or do you perhaps have suggestions for developing the educational strategy? We would highly appreciate if you would join us in preparing for decision making on our future educational portfolio.
