As of 15 February 2021, 23 hot beverage vending machines on campus will be disconnected. In this message, we would like to explain to you why we are doing this and which vending machines this concerns.
Why this decision?
Unfortunately, considering the current situation regarding Covid-19 this decision is was inevitable. Douwe Egberts has lost income due to the consequences of Covid-19. This is also visible at our university: the number of consumptions has decreased considerably, because we mainly work and study from our homes.
Which vending machines will be disconnected?
The machines that will be switched off show such low numbers of consumption that it is not profitable to leave them on. CFM has looked critically at which machines this concerns and where they are located. The result of this is that some employees/students may have to walk a bit further to get a drink. An overview of the machines that will be disconnected per building is attached to this message.
Re-activating machines possible in the future
Should the occupancy rates on our campus increase, then of course a number of machines will be switched on again. CFM will monitor the situation and the data of Douwe Egberts closely and will act accordingly.
Extending contact with Douwe Egberts
The current contract with Douwe Egberts expires at the end of May this year. Because of the current situation regarding Covid-19, starting a European Tender process it is not desirable. Together with Douwe Egberts, we have therefore looked at the possibilities and conditions for extending the contract by seven months. The good news is that we have reached an agreement and that Douwe Egberts will remain supplier of the hot beverage machines on campus until the end of 2021.
