Compliments and flowers for Computer Science students

The educational committee of Computer Science regularly presents a bouquet of flowers to a student that has shown outstanding motivation or dedication or positively contributed in surprising ways.

Recently, the coordinator of Module 1, Doina Bucur, has given flowers to Rick de Vries and Justin Praas. The motivation, in Doina’s words:
"Rick and Justin were extraordinary this quarter, in that they helped run our BSc education by setting up, maintaining, and implementing on short notice new features in Horus, their own class-management system used in Module 1. They helped the module coordinator and study program very much by making more of the student-administration processes automatic, and integrating Horus with Canvas. They also spent many extra hours improving the way students, teaching assistants, and teachers work with and experience Horus, so that we cope well with our large number of students."

The programme director, Arend Rensink, has presented flowers to a number of students who won national awards for their achievements in the Computer Science curriculum. The students in question were Yehven Khavrona (winner of the KHMW Young Talent Award for his outstanding first year), Jan Trienes (winner of the KHMW Philips award for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in Health Care) and Sophie Lathouwers (winner of the KHMW Greenhost thesis award on Internet and Technical Sciences, and second place for the KNVI Thesis Prize for Informatics and Information Science).
