Do you want to take your English-language academic writing to the next level by learning tips and tricks for editing the tone of your writing?
In this 2 hour interactive workshop you will practice editing real texts (including your own) following guidance from the teacher and discussion with peers. You will leave with an improved version of your own text, and knowledge of how to replicate editing techniques outside the classroom, making this stage of the writing process less stressful.
Items covered include: vocabulary, grammar and voice.
CONTENT
Content varies per group, depending on issues found in the texts submitted in advance. This is an example of typical content:
Vocabulary
- Identify vague vocabulary and make it more precise
- When and how to use technical terms
- When and how to use general academic vocabulary
- Grammar
- General principles of sentence structure
- Achieving clarity and conciseness at sentence level
- Voice
- When and how to use active and passive voice
- When and how to use personal pronouns
DURATION AND TIME INVESTMENT
One 2 hour workshop plus approximately 30 mins of preparation work.
