RESULT
In this course, participants will extend their basic knowledge of Dutch, leading them to CEF-level A2. Participants receive a certificate after full attendance and if the course work and portfolio are evaluated positively.
CONTENT
The course consists of independent course work through the online learning platform Link+. Additionally, participants have to complete written assignments (individually) and spoken assignments (recorded with a fellow student or someone outside of the course context) every week. In weeks 1, 4, 7 and 10 of the course there are conversational sessions, where students work in a small group with the teacher to practice speaking and (in week 10) complete a spoken exam. Throughout the course, the teacher is available four times a week through the course's discussion boards. Students complete a portfolio to show they have achieved the right proficiency. The portfolio consists of listening and reading tests, writing assignments and a spoken exam in the final lesson. If the result is satisfactory, you will be able to enrol in the A2/B1 course.
At the end of the course, you will be able to function in Dutch at CEF-level A2, which means that you can:
- understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment),
- communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters,
- describe in simple terms aspects of your background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
DURATION AND TIME INVESTMENT
The course runs for ten weeks. Every week, students do self-study (approximately 4 hours) and complete assignments (approximately 2 hours). Every three weeks, there is a conversational session with the teacher (45 minutes). Participants are required to complete all weekly assignments and to fully attend all conversational sessions in order to pass the course.
