RESULT
In this course, participants will acquire a basic knowledge of Dutch, leading them to CEF-level A1. Participants receive a certificate after 80% attendance and if the course portfolio is evaluated positively.
CONTENT
The course consists of two lessons per week: a preparation lesson and a practice lesson. In the preparation lesson, you use the course’s online learning platform to listen to dialogues, practise and learn grammar, do exercises and learn the vocabulary, together with your classmates and under the guidance of a teaching assistant.
In the practice lesson, you will actively work with the teacher and your classmates and practise all the topics you have prepared in the preparation lesson. This way, at the end of the course, you will be able to function in Dutch at CEF-level A1, which means that you can:
- understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type,
- introduce yourself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where someone lives, people you know and things you have,
- interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
You will be evaluated based on a portfolio, which you have to complete by the end of the course. The portfolio consists of listening and reading tests, writing assignments, a practical speaking exercise outside of class and a spoken exam in the final lesson. If the result is satisfactory, you will be able to enrol in the A2 course.
DURATION AND TIME INVESTMENT
Attendance at every lesson is essential. The course consists of 20 lessons of two hours each, with two sessions every week: one preparation lesson and one practice lesson. Homework is expected to take approximately two hours per week, in addition to the preparation lesson.
