Algorithms for All: Health and AI Exploring AI’s impact on society

How do algorithms shape our daily lives, and how can we shape these technologies ourselves?

Artificial intelligence is no longer a distant promise but a part of everyday life. From the way we learn and work to how we deal with health, climate and safety, algorithms increasingly influence our choices, opportunities and responsibilities. The question is no longer if AI has an impact, but how we can ensure that these technologies truly serve people and society.

With Algorithms for All, the University of Twente opens up that conversation. This series of sessions brings together researchers, students, professionals and anyone with an interest in the role of AI in society, around five timely themes: education, climate, work, health and safety.

The initiative was developed by Kristy Claassen, PhD candidate in Philosophy of Technology, and Udipta Boro, PhD candidate in Urban Safety and AI, in collaboration with the Digital Society Institute (DSI).

This session: Health and AI

From diagnostic tools to wearable devices, AI is transforming healthcare and medical research. These developments bring remarkable opportunities, but also raise important ethical and societal questions about trust, responsibility and access.

This session focuses on how we can combine technological innovation with empathy and care. How can AI support professionals and patients alike — and how do we ensure that digital health solutions truly serve people’s needs?

Speakers

  • Host: YJ Erden, Associate Professor of Philosophy
  • Early-career tech talk: Arlene John, Assistant Professor of Explainable AI and Multisensor Data Fusion for Biomedical Signals

What to expect

Each session creates space for exchange and dialogue. Short contributions by researchers and guest speakers from professional practice provide the starting point for an open discussion on the social, ethical and technological dimensions of AI. In doing so, the series reflects the essence of the University of Twente’s mission: High Tech Human Touch.

  • Inspiring talks by UT researchers and guest speakers from a range of disciplines
  • Reflection on the opportunities, risks and values of AI in society
  • An open meeting place for dialogue, connection and collaboration

Expect an inspiring and informal atmosphere, with a free vegan kroket sandwich for everyone attending.
