3D printed bearing

Yesterday we printed a ball bearing with the Ultimaker in the Designlab. We have put BB gun balls inside it. It turned out really nice for less precise purposes.

This bearing was made for a prototype of our physical data visualisation project by second year Creative Technology students.

Our team tried to find a solution for a rails system that moves a revolver horizontally. Small bearings are not that easy to find in shops than we expected. Besides that, they aren’t that cheap too!

That’s why 3D printing the bearing was a perfect solution, for the prototype anyway, but it seems strong enough for the final installation too.
