Background & description:
DesignLab served as the project coordinator, ensuring smooth collaboration and communication between all partners and stakeholders. A major focus was placed on stakeholder engagement, working with local communities and organizations already involved in wildlife activities.
- Conducted a landscape scan of local wildlife-related stakeholders
- Collected their experiences, insights, and sightings of wild boars
- Promoted public participation through waarneming.nl, encouraging users to report sightings with the aid of provided guidelines for identifying boars and their tracks
Alongside qualitative data, this citizen-led approach enabled deeper understanding of boar behavior and movement patterns in the region. The project emphasized regular updates and joint evaluation moments with the province and stakeholders. DesignLab ensured transparency and ongoing feedback loops to adapt plans, share findings, and secure necessary access for fieldwork. This collaborative method laid the groundwork for better informed decisions regarding wildlife management, while fostering community ownership in coexisting with local fauna.
