SAFETY REGION | ENOUGH TALK, NOW LET'S DO IT.
Goals of the project:
- Facilitate scenario-based workshops on large-scale health-related emergencies
- Develop a roadmap toward improved collaboration and information sharing in emergency response
- Create an innovation expedition showcasing future emergency response possibilities
- Strengthen inter-organizational coordination between GHOR, public health bodies, and emergency services
Background & description
The Medical Assistance Organization in the Region (GHOR Twente), responsible for coordinating public health responses during crises, sought to improve the flow and use of medical information during large-scale emergencies. With the eventual merging of five safety region control rooms into one central control room (realized in 2023), DesignLab was invited to help rethink information processes and emergency protocols.
In 2019, DesignLab organized two scenario-based workshops:
- Workshop 1: Focused on a large-scale flu outbreak, participants examined how information should ideally be collected and shared, and redefined GHOR’s role across five safety regions.
- Workshop 2: Envisioned the control room of the future, especially looking at improving coordination between the Regional Ambulance Services and GHOR.
Participants developed a roadmap for innovation and collaboration, explored the Science2Design4Societymethodology, and participated in an innovation expedition to reimagine emergency responses. The workshops were praised for their novel approach, and participants reported gaining practical tools and future-oriented thinking that were previously lacking in the sector.
This project was a series of workshops that show the future of the Medical Assistance Organisation in the Region (GHOR).
