INCENTIVE | ESTABLISHING CITIZEN SCIENCE HUBS TO DRIVE INSTITUTIONAL CHANGE
GOALS OF THE PROJECT:
- Bring citizens, public administration, and the private sector closer to the research community
- Demonstrate the potential of citizen science through co-creation and assessment of Citizen Science Hubs at participating universities
- Provide practices, methods, and tools to support other research institutions across Europe in setting up their own Citizen Science Hubs
BACKGROUND & DESCRIPTION:
Citizen Science is a rapidly growing field where citizens, civil society, and researchers collaborate on scientific research. The INCENTIVE project, led by the University of Twente’s DesignLab, aims to institutionalize citizen science by establishing Citizen Science Hubs across European universities. These hubs serve as local centers for collaboration, empowering citizens to participate in research and fostering Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI).
DesignLab launched the UT Citizen Science Hub during the Citizen Science Conference on 20 November 2020, and through INCENTIVE, is helping other universities develop similar structures. The project is grounded in DesignLab’s commitment to responsible and transdisciplinary research and education.
