Digital Inclusion program launched

The kick-off meeting for the program Samen wegwijs op het internet took place on Wednesday, November 6. This scientifically based intervention for internet support was developed for and by parents in Enschede who are struggling financially, as part of PhD research on the themes of digital inclusion and poverty. The program, funded by the ING Nederland Fund, was created following a process of qualitative research and co-creation.

An enthusiastic group of parents from Enschede Zuid were welcomed this morning by Lilian Boerkamp (PhD candidate and program coordinator) at the community center Het Stroinkshuis. In addition to an introduction and information about the program, all participating parents received their own laptop today. The laptops were provided by the municipality of Enschede, and the parents will be able to keep them after the program. Jeroen Schopman from the Enschede Library was present to assist the parents in getting started with their new laptops.

A fun, short training session is scheduled every Wednesday morning for the next three months, covering topics relevant to parents. For example, next week, during Media Literacy Week, a media coach will visit to discuss the theme of children in the online world. Parents can also receive help with internet-related issues during the program, along with technical support from the Surplus Foundation. The goal is to introduce parents to the opportunities the internet offers, raise awareness of available support, and boost their confidence in using the internet. Additionally, parents will learn how to keep themselves and their children safe online. Curious about the full schedule of Samen wegwijs op het internet? You can download the program booklet below this message.

Throughout and after the program, a qualitative evaluation will be conducted to improve the program (for future iterations) based on the parents' experiences. We will keep you updated on the latest developments via the website of the Center for Digital Inclusion.
